Christmas Cookie Sale The sign up sheet to donate cookies to be sold at the annual Junior Vestry/Sunday School cookie sale is on the bulletin board in the Parish Hall.  Here is how it works.  Members of the parish bring cookies to the Parish Hall on the morning of December 19^th.  The Junior Vestry has purchased plastic boxes in which to package the cookies.  Each box will be put together and sold for $6.00.  If you would like to help us, please plan to bring your cookies to church on that Sunday by 9:00 AM so we can get them ready to sell.  If you have questions, please see a Junior Vestry officer (Jessie Kilcoyne, Devonta Lawerence, CJ Culpepper, Taylor Garrett) or call Cindy Kilcoyne 301-737-8849.  Thank you all for your help in making this another successful cookie sale!  Thank You, Jessie Kilcoyne, Senior Warden of the Junior Vestry

The Teens Are Taking Over a Sunday School classroom for their own. The classroom has been freshly painted, a couch is on the way, along with other comfy furnishings. We are looking for a rug, about 8 feet by 10 feet (give or take a few feet) from a pet free, smoke free home, that’s in good shape and has a little bit of softness to it. Lastly, thanks to Bill and Chuck for being with us through the breakdowns – the occasional mental ones along the way and the final physical breakdown of the parish hall space when the bazaar was over.  We expect to net over $4000 when the final numbers are in.  Pat yourselves on the back!!!!  We shall enjoy our bottles of St. Andrews fine wine…thank you all.  Ellen and Ginni

From the Bishop, October 2010 Samaritan Ministry relies very heavily on the Help the Homeless Walkathon to support its Next Step program, helping people who are homeless and others in need to make lasting changes.  This year Samaritan Ministry is challenged to recruit 3,000 walkers. In return for reaching that goal, they will receive a $50,000 bonus from Fannie Mae – enough to pay for nearly 300 visits by Next Step program participants with trained caseworkers. Or enough to pay for more than 1,000 people to get driver’s licenses for employment purposes. Funds like this go a long way toward helping people get back on their feet. This year’s Walk will be on the National Mall on November 20, the Saturday before Thanksgiving. The registration fee for those 25 years or younger is $15, for those over 25 it is $25. More details can be found at ww.samaritanministry.org (click on the Help the Homeless link and select Samaritan Ministry of Greater Washington-DC074 as your beneficiary agency).  Those who cannot attend the Walk on the Mall can be “virtual walkers” or can make donations to sponsor other walkers. We would also like to assist them again by providing toiletries this year. HOWEVER, they have SPECIFIC requests so that all the guests will have virtually the same toiletries. There will be a sign up sheet in the Parish Hall this coming Sunday. Dear WARM Participants, Remember that we will have a WARM Planning Meeting next Wednesday (Nov. 17) starting at 6:30pm at St. George’s Episcopal Church in Valley Lee.  This meeting is being called for the specific purpose of receiving updates on the new training as well as planning our WARM week at St. George’s – Sunday, Nov. 28 through Dec. 5, 2010. All are welcome, and we look forward to you all coming out and signing up for various ways to serve.  You can be a day-time cleaner, or dinner or breakfast maker / server, or a night monitor, or any of the above.  Or you can help serve in some other capacity.  Come next Wednesday and find out! We are looking forward to being the first church to host this program during this, the second year of WARM.  And this may very well be our one and only week hosting — the WARM Board has done an outstanding job of recruiting new churches from all around our county to be new host sites!  Good job, WARM Board! The full Annual Meeting will be January 30, 2011 at which time a 2011 budget will be presented and new vestry nominees will be elected. Our annual Stewardship Campaign began last week. If you have not yet received your pledge letter you will soon. This year’s letter is much more informative and attractive than in recent years, thanks to the collaborative efforts of the finance committee members and our new rector. This comprehensive letter hopefully gives all parishioners a better understanding of how their pledge dollars are used and why their pledge is so important.

Messiah Chorus Singers Wanted!  COSMIC Symphony is looking for singers to sing in the community chorus for their presentation of the Christmas portion of Handel’s masterpiece, Messiah. Rehearsals will be held at Lexington Park United Methodist Church, Tuesday evenings from 7-9 starting on October 12th, with Joey Hoopengardner directing. The performances will be on December 11^th & 12^th. Bring your Messiah score (or borrow one from us) and join us! For more information, contact Maureen Wysham at gwysham@md.metrocast.net.

Acolyte Training will be held again on October 24^th @ 11:45 – 12:30 pm in the Church, we will conduct acolyte training. Current acolytes must attend one of the sessions to learn the slight changes to be introduced. New acolytes, at least 3rd grade and up, need to attend both of the sessions. We will be meeting with the current and new acolytes separately.  Pizza lunch will be provided before the session. This is one of the most important worship ministries at St. Andrew’s and we are thankful for the participation of children and youth. Please email the church office if your child or youth will be attending so we can order enough pizza. saintandrews@verizon.net.

Youth Group Party  There will be a youth group party on October 30^th, from 6 – 9:30pm in the Parish Hall.  This event is open to 6^th – 12^th graders. Please join us from 10:30-11:30am the day of the party to help decorate.  Also, please bring a non-perishable food item to donate to the food pantry and a potluck dish to share.  Contact Laura Biggerstaff at 301-862-4227 for more information.

A Candidates’ Forum featuring candidates for State Senator, State Delegates of Districts 29A, 29B, and 29C, and State’s Attorney is scheduled for Monday evening, October 18^th, at the Leonardtown High School auditorium.   Jointly sponsored by the League of Women Voters of St. Mary’s County, the NAACP, St. Mary’s Branch, and the Center for the Study of Democracy at St. Mary’s College of Maryland, candidates for the positions listed have been invited to participate in the question and answer portion of the program. All candidates on the general election ballot are invited to “meet and greet” the public and to offer campaign literature in the lobby of the auditorium beginning at 6:00 p.m. The question-and-answer portions will begin at 6:30.  This format provides an opportunity for citizens to submit questions pertinent to the various offices either during the program or in advance by emailing info@smc.lwvmd.org.  Information submitted by candidates is available at the LWV website www.smc.lwvmd.org.
